An overview of America’s Views on Women

Being raised by strong and independent black women, I was always taught that a man should know a woman’s worth no matter what they’ve done in their past. Living in a world where women are being “slut-shamed”, taken advantage of, and treated with multiple inequalities has made this mindset that women should be judge by the way they look, the way they act, and even their morals.

Recently, there has been an announcement that Ayesha Curry, wife of NBA-star Steph Curry, will be hosting her own show on Food Network. Leave it to Twitter to make something so great, “SO NASTY AND SO RUDE” as NeNe Leakes would say. Memes were created to show Mrs. Curry judging anyone who wears provocative clothing or having premarital sex. Let’s take it back a few months so you can get the full story. Back in December, Ayesha Curry explained her views on dressing conservative and “choosing classy over trendy”. Although many men and women agreed with her, many men and women feel like Ayesha was shading many women who dress “sexy”. These comments where soon forgotten after a week.

Fast forward a few month. In March, Kim Kardashian-West posted a nude selfie that sent waves throughout the nation and social media. Let’s just say….this picture even made Satan blush. Suddenly, Ayesha’s comments were resurrected and used in a nationwide question, “Do men want a Ayesha Curry or a Kim Kardashian?” In my group of college friends I am known as “The Hardest Working Male Feminist in the Game” (which I think is far from truth!!), so of course this struck a nerve with me. Let me break this all down for you.

There is nothing wrong for a woman to be a “Ayesha Curry” or a “Kim Kardashian”. Ayesha Curry is a smart, beautiful, and godly woman who can cook, and in the South that is very attractive (I’m catching the vapors just thinking about it). Although these qualities are seen as “wifey material”, this gives NO excuse to judge a woman for being provocative and sexy or having a past. Kim Kardashian-West is not only one of the many beautiful women of our time but she is also one of the most prominent business women of the New Millennium. From mobile games to television commercials to clothing lines, Kim has made it clear that she can “snatch y’alls weave and then pay for new bundles” as my mother would say. Now I hate to be Rebbie Jackson of Shadybrooke Farm, but other than this T.V. show I have yet to hear of what Ayesha (NOT HER HUSBAND) has done. Not to take away from her or what she does, but to prove a point NEVER judge a woman based on appearances. Kim is being judge based on a picture, but is rarely commended for helping women learn to be confident in their bodies. This world is full of body-shaming people and for a mother of two to put herself on the social media chopping block is very admirable, even for a man.

Another thing, EVERYONE NEEDS TO LET KIM’S SEXTAPE STAY IN THE PAST. Here’s the skinny, the tape came out almost 10 years ago, and the tape itself was videoed 13 years ago. Let’s be real, we have all been in a relationship where it’s been thought that “We Will Be Together Forever”. This is what Kim probably thought when she made the sextape. We should not condemn someone for wanting to do something sexy with their significant other. To be honest, some women can’t judge making a sextape because some of them are making a sextape with someone else’s man. NOW I KNOW, that pissed some of y’all off… Think about how Kim feels. Imagine being reminded of your past experiences with your exes…. How can you move forward in your life?? Another question. If Steph and Ayesha (who have been married for 6 years) were to get a divorce and a sextape surfaced, will she get all the hate that Kim has gotten?

Before it gets started, I am not bashing Ayesha. I just want America to know that every woman has a very different approach on life, sex, and relationships and we should EMBRACE and not JUDGE these diverse opinions. Whether they are a cute homebody or a sex vixens, women should be appreciated for all the things they can do. When that happens… America might be able to come together for once in its history.
